A WordPress block theme, without a page builder

The WordPress export creates a block theme for the WordPress site editor. Colours, fonts and sizes live in theme.json, and every section of the design becomes a pattern built from core blocks. Clients change copy and images in the editor without breaking the layout: the patterns are locked to content.

It suits you if the client already knows WordPress or insists on editing, and if someone takes on updates and backups for real.

What you get

theme.json v3
Colour palette, font sizes and fonts locked, so the editor stays on design.
Patterns
One pattern per section built from core blocks, only content editable.
Templates and parts
Page templates, header and footer, as a ZIP to upload.
To try out
A blueprint.json for WordPress Playground, so you can test the theme without a server.

How it goes live

  1. Load the WordPress export as a ZIP.
  2. In WordPress go to Appearance, Themes, Upload theme, pick the ZIP and activate it.
  3. Place the patterns on the pages in the site editor and replace the copy.
  4. Plan updates, backups and a security plugin or a care contract.

What is not included

This is the first version of the export. Whatever does not translate cleanly into core blocks ends up as an HTML block and is counted in the export report.

WooCommerce templates are not included.

Questions

Do I need Elementor or another page builder?

No. The theme uses only the block editor that ships with WordPress. There is a separate Elementor export.

Who looks after updates?

You or your web designer. The handover pack explains what running the site involves.
